I’m going to be debuting a bee-utiful, new storefront diorama at Malden Access Television tomorrow as part of the 10th annual Window Arts Malden project.

I and other local participating artists will be hanging around our windows at various downtown storefronts from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015. You can see me and my diorama at MATV, 145 Pleasant St., Malden, Mass. The artwork (pictured above) will be on view through Oct. 12. (My sweetheart Kari Percival will be showing her art at My Little Best Friends, 384 Main St., Malden.)

The diorama depicts bees pollinating strawberries—at a time when the insects are dying off in alarming numbers. Some 42 percent of managed honey bee colonies in the United States collapsed between April 2014 and April 2015, according to a survey by the U.S. Department of Agriculture that was released this May. Scientific research suggests a major culprit is new pesticides called neonicotinoids. The loss of bees has serious implications for people as the plant pollination these insects do is key to sustaining many of the foods we eat.

This project is a continuation of the theme I began when collaborating with numerous friends for the Gloucester Horrible’s Parade in July.
