I was sad to hear that tomorrow’s reading by the legendary Gloucester poet Gerrit Lansing at Harvard’s Woodberry Poetry Room has been cancelled (Snow!). So I called him up and asked him if he would read me a poem over the phone. This is his poem that he kindly read:

I See Bright Sun Illuminating Absence

snow on juniper

to the feeding station flies

for bread no red bird

The Woodberry reading has been postponed until May, I’m told. Lansing is also scheduled to read with Derek Fenner at the Gloucester Writers Center on May 27.

(Poem reproduced here with Mr. Lansing’s permission.)
