Three costumes from the Disney film “Cruella,” created by Oscar-winning costume designer Jenny Beavan, will be showcased in the front window of the School of Fashion Design window at 136 Newbury St., Boston, from from May 14 to 20, 2021.

The live-action film, directed by Craig Gillespie, imagines the backstory of Cruella de Vil, the fashion-mad villain of Disney’s 1961 animated film “One Hundred and One Dalmatians.” Disney describes the story as “the rebellious early days of one of cinema’s most notorious – and notoriously fashionable – villains, the legendary Cruella de Vil. ‘Cruella,’ which is set in 1970s London amidst the punk rock revolution, follows a young grifter.”

The film sets Emma Stone as Cruella against Emma Thompson as fashion legend Baroness von Hellman. The film is set for release simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+ with premier access on May 28.

The display features “Red Dress,” meant to evoke designer Charles James’s classic 1950s “tree dress,” and “Finale Look” that Beavan created for Stone and the “Baroness Viking Gala Look,” inspired by 1950s and ‘60s Dior-influenced Hollywood fashions, that Beavan designed for Thompson.
