Lilly Evelet of Boston, Arghavan Khosravi of Natick and Yu-Wen Wu of Boston have been named as finalists for a new biennial prize, the $15,000 Prilla Smith Brackett Award, that aims to honor outstanding woman visual artists based in the Greater Boston area. The winner is expected to be announced in early September. The Davis Museum Wellesley College, which is administering the prize, has planned a Sept. 23 celebration of the winner.

“I’ve felt strongly for a long time of how hard it is for artists—and women artists in particular,” Brackett, who funded the prize, told me in March.

“I hope that whoever gets it can use it for anything they think will be beneficial for their career,” Brackett said. Some ideas include studio rent, research, travel, publishing a catalog of their art. “Whatever it is that can move them along.”
