Sarina Mitchel’s “Maximalist Mind Vomit” exhibit at AS220’s Project Space Reading Room in Providence ends tomorrow with a public chat between her and Mara Trachtenberg, who also has work on view at the gallery.
It’s a walls-filling installation of sketches, doodles, notes and ephemera. “Get Em’ Out! Mind Vomit Order Now! Goal: Max Externalization. Draw Doodle Write Scribble Scrawl Evacuate all thoughts! To the Walls! Order Effective Immediately,” she writes on one paper. On another she writes, “Don’t Let It Out.” And then you might spot something saying, “Why Bother?”
In her artist statement, Mitchel writes:
“Come bear witness to
In this touring tour de force! …
Prepare yourselves, good people,
To be bombastically bombarded by
A barrage of notes, scraps, scrawls!
A deluge of drawings, doodles, bits!
A torrent of articles, charts, lists!
Not to mention stories! writings! ideas! postcards! printouts! flyers! swatches! sketches! pachyderms! diagrams! receipts! RIPTA passes! reference photos! poetic musings! diabolical plots!
And lord knows what else!”
