As many as 10,000 people attended the “Protest Trump in Boston” rally at Boston Common this evening, not quite a day after Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election.
“Donald Trump is the next President of the United States. We need to immediately start fighting against him. We need to build a movement to fight racism, sexism, and Islamophobia,” wrote the organizers, Boston Socialist Students, Boston Movement for the 99 Percent, and Boston Socialist Alternative.
The event began with a raucous rally at the Parkman Bandstand at Boston Common at 7 p.m., with plans to subsequently march to Copley Square. Protesters chanted “My pussy, my choice!” “Trump is racist!” “Black Lives Matter!” “Fuck Donald Trump!” “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA!” “Love Trumps Hate!” “Hey, hey, ho, ho, Donald Trump has got to go!” “Popular vote!” “Trump lies, Clinton cheats, build a movement, hit the streets!” “Not my president!” “What do we want? No pipeline! When do we want it? Now!”
“Who here is pissed off?” a speaker said from bandstand as the protest kicked off. The crowd roared. “Who out here is ready to turn that into a movement to fight Donald Trump’s right wing agenda?” The crowd roared again.
