{"id":9450,"date":"2018-11-29T20:27:56","date_gmt":"2018-11-30T01:27:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gregcookland.com\/wonderland\/?p=9450"},"modified":"2018-11-29T20:29:25","modified_gmt":"2018-11-30T01:29:25","slug":"citgo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gregcookland.com\/wonderland\/2018\/11\/29\/citgo\/","title":{"rendered":"Walsh To Veto Landmark Status For Citgo Sign As Real Estate Deal Protects It"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Boston Mayor Marty Walsh will veto the Boston Landmarks Commission\u2019s vote to grant landmark status to the Citgo sign in Boston\u2019s Kenmore Square after a real estate developer agrees to protect the iconic sign for three decades, the city reports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to share that we have reached a long-term resolution that will preserve the Citgo sign and allow for it to remain in place in Kenmore Square for years to come, recognizing the significance that this sign has on our landscape in Boston, while balancing the opportunity for our horizons to continue evolving in future years,\u201d according to a joint statement issued on behalf of Walsh, Citgo, the developer Related Beal and Boston University and released by the city.<\/p>\n<p>A city official reports that \u201cas the agreement reached protects the long-term viability of the Citgo sign, the mayor will veto the landmark designation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Catherine Carlock reports at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/boston\/news\/2018\/11\/29\/citgo-sign-could-be-elevated-after-walsh-vetoes.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boston Business Journal<\/a>: \u201cThat veto will allow Related Beal to elevate the sign\u2019s position as part of a proposed mixed-use development. Related Beal intends to raise the sign by at least 30 feet, and could shift its lateral position, a source familiar with the development said.
