{"id":7474,"date":"2018-05-28T10:09:54","date_gmt":"2018-05-28T14:09:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gregcookland.com\/wonderland\/?p=7474"},"modified":"2018-06-01T22:14:02","modified_gmt":"2018-06-02T02:14:02","slug":"boston-compass","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gregcookland.com\/wonderland\/2018\/05\/28\/boston-compass\/","title":{"rendered":"Boston Compass\u2014The Monthly Guide To The City\u2019s Music Underground\u2014Reaches Its 100th Issue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>I wrote about the\u00a0Boston Compass reaching a milestone in the\u00a0latest <a href=\"https:\/\/digboston.com\/subterranean-centennial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dig Boston<\/a>:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDirecting you to underground shows and awesome happenings! in Boston,\u201d Samuel Potrykus scrawled across the top of the first edition of the <a href=\"https:\/\/bostonhassle.com\/boston-compass\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boston Compass<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He debuted it on March 6, 2010, as just a single photocopied sheet of paper. Each month since, the Boston Compass has arrived as a sort of oracle. The broadside grew into a newsprint newspaper. It was a magical window into a far out, fringe, independent, underground world of secret house shows filled with fuzzy garage rock and experimental noise\u2014that the police were trying to infiltrate and shut down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople who have no voice or no platform or no foundational support, we are a place for them,\u201d Potrykus says. \u201c\u2026It\u2019s literally navigating you to something you otherwise can\u2019t get to.
