{"id":6616,"date":"2018-03-23T00:17:30","date_gmt":"2018-03-23T04:17:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gregcookland.com\/wonderland\/?p=6616"},"modified":"2018-03-23T00:17:30","modified_gmt":"2018-03-23T04:17:30","slug":"mit-robot-fish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gregcookland.com\/wonderland\/2018\/03\/23\/mit-robot-fish\/","title":{"rendered":"Fish, Meet Your New MIT Robot Overlord!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With the headline <a href=\"http:\/\/news.mit.edu\/2018\/soft-robotic-fish-swims-alongside-real-ones-coral-reefs-0321\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cSoft robotic fish swims alongside real ones in coral reefs,\u201d<\/a> the Massachusetts Institute of Technology this week announced that \u201ca team from MIT\u2019s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) unveiled \u2018SoFi,\u2019 a soft robotic fish that can independently swim alongside real fish in the ocean.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Dy5ZETdaC9k\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring test dives in the Rainbow Reef in Fiji, SoFi swam at depths of more than 50 feet for up to 40 minutes at once, nimbly handling currents and taking high-resolution photos and videos using (what else?) a fisheye lens,\u201d MIT News informed the world. \u201cUsing its undulating tail and a unique ability to control its own buoyancy, SoFi can swim in a straight line, turn, or dive up or down.
