{"id":5930,"date":"2018-02-15T22:39:04","date_gmt":"2018-02-16T03:39:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gregcookland.com\/wonderland\/?p=5930"},"modified":"2018-02-20T06:19:39","modified_gmt":"2018-02-20T11:19:39","slug":"greg-gibson","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gregcookland.com\/wonderland\/2018\/02\/15\/greg-gibson\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018My Name Is Greg Gibson And I\u2019m Speaking With The Man Who Killed My Son\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cMy name is Greg Gibson and I\u2019m speaking with the man who killed my son,\u201d Gibson (above right) says in a striking <a href=\"https:\/\/storycorps.org\/listen\/greg-gibson-and-wayne-lo-171208\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">StoryCorps radio interview<\/a> first broadcast last December.<\/p>\n<p>It is one of the great horrors of our nation that gun massacre after gun massacre, with seemingly nothing done by our leaders to stop them, makes Gibson\u2019s story of his son\u2019s murder in a school shooting two and a half decades ago ever timely and topical.<\/p>\n<p>The Gloucester writer and bookseller is the author of the 1999 book \u201cGone Boy: A Walkabout,\u201d his account of his journey to find truth and meaning in the murder of his 18-year-old son Galen in a shooting at Simon\u2019s Rock college in Massachusetts in December 1992.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/storycorps.org\/embed\/88275\/\" width=\"720\" height=\"427\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As 25th anniversary of the killing approached, Gibson went to a prison to visit Wayne Lo (pictured above left) who was convicted of shooting dead Galen, murdering a second person and wounding four others when they were both students at the school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is really exhausting isn\u2019t it,\u201d Gibson says frankly at one point in the conversation.<\/p>\n<p>Later he says, \u201cWe\u2019ve all suffered and we\u2019ve all grown wise from out suffering. Some people do it one way and some people do it another way. I understand that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lo asks Gibson if it bothers his family that he\u2019s talking to his son\u2019s murderer. \u201cI think it bothers my son,\u201d Gibson replies. \u201cHe just doesn\u2019t want to have anything to do with it. He doesn\u2019t want to talk about it. And I respect that completely. So, yeah, I think they think I\u2019m a little crazy.
