AS220 has kindly invited Kari Percival<\/a> and me to be artists-in-residence at the Providence art center\u2019s annual Foo Fest<\/a> this Saturday, Aug. 12, from 1 p.m. to 1 a.m. And we\u2019d love for you to join us! We’ll be leading a Utopia parade and organizing talks and making masks and signs\u2014all about utopia (Foo-topia) and making the world a better place.<\/p>\n

From 1 to 5 p.m., you can make bird masks and signs about your dreams of utopia with us. From 3:30 to 5 p.m., we’ve lined up Foo University talks about art, global warming, and resistance by Amanda Babson of Citizens Climate Lobby Rhode Island; Shey Rivera, artistic director of AS220; Allison Cole of Solidarity Sundays; and Andy Acciaioli of Indivisible Rhode Island.<\/p>\n

Then be in our Foo-topia parade through the festival at 5:30 p.m. with music by the Black Out Drum Squad and bird puppets and masks and a giant rainbow.<\/p>\n

While you\u2019re at Foo, check out how we\u2019re transforming the festival gate with banners (like the one pictured at top) and whirligigs. We’re designing a photobooth where you can get your picture taken in Foo-topia. Kari made the amazing festival poster (look below). And we’ve made stickers to stick.<\/p>\n

Foo Fest is at AS220, 115 Empire St., Providence, Rhode Island.<\/p>\n

Kids get into Foo Fest free; adults get in cheap. If you want to be in the parade (and we’re always looking for help), please get in touch with me ASAP and I might be able to get you in free.<\/p>\n
