Union workers are picketing the Encore casino in Everett as they seek a new “contract that delivers better wages, stronger benefits, and enhanced protections on the job.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than 1,300 workers at Encore Boston Harbor, represented by Teamsters Local 25 and UNITE HERE Local 26 have been on strike since Sept. 4, according to the union<\/a>. “Encore took in $847 million in Boston last year,” the union says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe make Encore a world-class resort that generates enormous profits because of our hard work,\u201d James Atkins, lead gardener and chief steward at Local 25, said in a press release.<\/a> \u201cWe didn\u2019t want to strike but we won\u2019t accept a contract that blatantly disrespects our labor. We\u2019re on the picket line and will stay out as long as it takes to get a fair deal.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Encore Boston Harbor disputed the unions’ claims, saying wages and benefits for employees represented by UNITE HERE and the Teamsters have increased 36.8% over the past four years while company revenue has increased 1.9% during the same period,” according to WCVB5<\/a>. “The company also said the average represented employee earns $95,000 annually in wages and benefits.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
