Calmer Con Boston<\/a>, a “sensory-friendly” comic and pop culture convention, will be at the Meadowbrook School, 10 Farm Road, Weston, this Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Free admission with registration.) Produced in partnership with the Boston Comic Arts Foundation, the event is “designed to meet the needs of those with sensory processing challenges, autism, and anxiety concerns while providing an authentic comics and pop culture convention experience. … Many of our activities are held in separate spaces to allow us to better manage noise and crowd levels.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“For years, Adam Wilson and his family attempted to attend comic book conventions with their autistic son, Logan,” according to organizers. “They quickly realized that Logan was becoming easily overwhelmed by the noise, bright lights, and crowds at these events. After contacting multiple event organizers to inquire about sensory accommodations for guests, and being told that they didn\u2019t exist, Adam started a nonprofit called Calm Passion and put a team together to provide sensory reduced areas, called Calmer Spaces, for free at conventions. Soon, the Calm Passion team decided to hold the first sensory-friendly comic convention, Calmer Con, in 2018 in Central Massachusetts. Subsequent events were held in Massachusetts and Florida in 2019 and 2021.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Creators to be featured at this Calmer Con Boston include Ellen T. Crenshaw\u00a0of “The Baby-Sitters Club,”\u00a0Phil Hall of “The Glacial Geek” on YouTube,\u00a0Brendan Mahan, author of “Overcoming the Wall of Awful,” and\u00a0Judd Winick\u00a0of “Hilo.” Meet cartoonists and find neurodiversity-inclusive resources, “Jedi Training,” gaming, drawing workshops and other activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
