\u201cBlack Futures: How to See in Total Darkness 2.0\u201d at Salem State University\u2019s Winfisky Gallery in Salem, Massachusetts, from Jan. 20 to Feb. 20, 2026, grew out of a 2023 exhibition at Boston\u2019s HallSpace gallery. This “continued discussion of voices of provocation in a climate that questions free speech and expression as a unifying principle of our collective and inclusive democracy,” according to the gallery, features Boston artists Dell M. Hamilton, Karmimadeebora McMillan, Jameel Radcliffe and Jamal Thorne, who also co-curated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c<\/strong>All poignantly represent a multitude of approaches that read informed by their lived experiences, their formal training as well as a broad range of discourses on how race, gender, social relations, history and culture substantively shape both figurative and abstract art,\u201d co-curator Ari Montford wrote about the 2023 exhibition. \u201c\u2026In many instances, these artists are wrestling with themselves, heir passion for collective work, and the material conditions of a world that wasn\u2019t built for them.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
