Today is the last day to see “across and within: works on paper and comics poetry by Franklin Einspruch”<\/a> at Storefront Art Projects in Watertown. The New Hampshire artist will be at the gallery on Saturday, July 16, from 1 to 4 p.m. and “producing individualized comics poems upon request.”<\/p>\n

“The dramatic clay cliffs of Aquinnah on Martha’s Vineyard inspired careful observations in watercolor,” Einspruch writes. “Mount Greylock prompted exploration of a method of thick outlines filled with variegated paints (handmade gouaches and egg tempera, formulated to be a little erratic), taking inspiration from other examples of figurative modernism. Along the way, pictures appeared in the studio, many of them flowers, because I am in favor of pleasure. That activity informed my work in comics poetry, a genre in which one strives for the literary effect of poetry using the vocabulary of comics: words, images, panels, and so on.”<\/p>\n
