“Sea Walls: Artists for Oceans,”<\/a> from the PangeaSeed Foundation in collaboration with local public art initiative HarborArts, has returned to Boston to commission 11 new ocean advocacy murals from July 19 to 26 and host a variety of public events “to increase interest and engagement in marine stewardship within the community.” BRM Production Management is also a sponsor and is providing operational support.<\/p>\n

The project is headlined by Los Angeles street artist Shepard Fairey, creator of the Barack Obama \u2018HOPE\u2019 portrait and the “Obey Giant” series, who is working with a crew to paint a large mural at the New England Aquarium in Boston. And painting murals in East Boston this year are Sabrina Dorsainvil, Taj Francis, It’s A Living, Nneka Jones, Kai Kaulukakui and Taylor Reinhold, Marka27, Josie Morway, Felipe Ortiz, Beau Stanton, Tallboy, Sophy Tuttle and Lauren YS. Their themes range from biodiversity loss to shark and sea turtle conservation to coastal overdevelopment to plastic pollution.<\/p>\n

This is the second year here for the project. Last fall, “Sea Walls” commissioned local artists Silvia Lopez Chavez, Sneha \u201cImagine\u201d Shrestha, Julz Roth and Cedric \u201cVise 1\u201d Douglas, and Josie Morway to paint murals in the Boston Harbor Shipyard in East Boston about climate change, sea level rise, pollution, and how these problems particularly hurt communities of color.<\/p>\n
