{"id":15661,"date":"2020-03-25T18:20:37","date_gmt":"2020-03-25T22:20:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gregcookland.com\/wonderland\/?p=15661"},"modified":"2020-03-25T18:21:36","modified_gmt":"2020-03-25T22:21:36","slug":"agoos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gregcookland.com\/wonderland\/2020\/03\/25\/agoos\/","title":{"rendered":"Guerrilla Artist Gives MFA\u2019s Giant Baby Head A Coronavirus Mask"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this moment of coronivirus concern, Peter Agoos thought the giant bronze baby heads by Spanish artist Antonio L\u00f3pez Garc\u00eda outside Boston\u2019s Museum of Fine Arts could use some assistance.<\/p>\n<p>So last Sunday, the Boston artist says, he and his nephew Gabriel Fancher arrived at the museum&#8217;s\u00a0Fenway entrance with \u201ca surgical mask sized for one of the pair of bronze heads.\u201d They strapped it onto the 8-foot-tall head on the left, titled <a href=\"https:\/\/collections.mfa.org\/objects\/506805\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cDay,\u201d<\/a> to \u201chelp to prevent the spread of the virus,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.agoos.com\/portfolio#\/ppe-for-antonio-lopez-garcia-day\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Agoos says in an artist statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He calls the guerrilla art installation \u201cPPE for Antonio L\u00f3pez Garcia&#8217;s \u2018DAY\u2019\u201d\u2014PPE for personal protective equipment, I believe.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_15670\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-15670\" style=\"width: 900px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gregcookland.com\/wonderland\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/picAgoos2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-15670\" src=\"https:\/\/gregcookland.com\/wonderland\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/picAgoos2-1024x578.jpg\" alt=\"Peter Agoos's \u201cPPE for Antonio L\u00f3pez Garcia's \u2018DAY\u2019\u201d at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts, March 22, 2020. (Courtesy Peter Agoos)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The materials, Agoos writes, were left over from \u201cwRock wRap,\u201d his project for the October 2019 Fort Point Open Studios in which he covered boulders outside the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bostonchildrensmuseum.org\/exhibits-programs\/exhibits\/public-art\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boston Children\u2019s Museum<\/a> in transparent industrial cling wrap the colors of the museum\u2019s logo.<\/p>\n<p>Agoos has created a number of public art projects in Boston over the years. \u201cTropical Fort Point\u201d floated more than a dozen palm trees in the Fort Point Channel between the Congress and Summer Street bridges in spring 2014.
