\u201cThe history of Oberon is clouded in mystery,\u201d one of the paranormal investigators warns at the start of the Boston Circus Guild\u2019s \u201cCirque of the Dead,\u201d<\/a> \u201cwhich is to say nobody at Harvard would give me any information.\u201d<\/p>\n

The show\u2014at Oberon in Cambridge from Oct. 18 to 31, 2019\u2014follows the funny-scary adventures of the investigators as they prowl the theater for signs of monsters and ghouls and corny gags.<\/p>\n

\u201cAny discomfort or disgust you might feel is entirely intentional,\u201d an announcer warns at the beginning. It\u2019s an \u201cimmersive, adults-only Halloween spectacular,\u201d with winks at \u201cThe Evil Dead,\u201d \u201cScooby-Doo\u201d and other horror franchises. Creepy ghouls and harlequins wander around and through the audience. Don\u2019t interact with the spirits, one of the investigators warns, \u201cIt is super rude. Ghosts are people too.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCirque of the Dead\u201d might be described as the love child of trashy horror flicks and Cirque du Soleil. Dazzling performers swing above the audience on ropes, silks, a lyra (hoop) and trapeze. They spin and tumble and balance in improbable feats of acrobatics. And director Corinne Mason notes, you\u2019ll encounter \u201ccreepy clowns. Just what everybody needs.\u201d<\/p>\n
