Lilly Evelet of Boston, Arghavan Khosravi of Natick and Yu-Wen Wu of Boston have been named as finalists for a new biennial prize, the $15,000 Prilla Smith Brackett Award, that aims to honor outstanding woman visual artists based in the Greater Boston<\/a> area. The winner is expected to be announced in early September. The Davis Museum Wellesley College, which is administering the prize, has planned a Sept. 23 celebration of the winner.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve felt strongly for a long time of how hard it is for artists\u2014and women artists in particular,\u201d Brackett, who funded the prize, told me in March.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope that whoever gets it can use it for anything they think will be beneficial for their career,\u201d Brackett said. Some ideas include studio rent, research, travel, publishing a catalog of their art. \u201cWhatever it is that can move them along.\u201d<\/p>\n
