More than 200 bands acts are scheduled to perform on porches, in backyards and in parks from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Below are some bands worth checking out, listed in order of when they\u2019ll be performing. My criteria were not absolutely musically rigorous. Other things sometimes sway me, like a music video featuring an elephant.<\/p>\n<p>The schedule groups bands by neighborhood, so bands west of Willow Avenue play from noon to 2 p.m., folks between Willow Avenue and Central Street play from 2 to 4 p.m., and east of Central Street artists perform from 4 to 6 p.m. \u201cParking restrictions will be relaxed in residential areas from noon to 6 p.m.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by an event in upstate New York, PorchFest exploded locally when our friends at the Somerville Arts Council first copycatted it here in 2011. There are now several versions around greater Boston\u2014this year including <a href=\"https:\/\/arlingtonporchfest.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arlington<\/a> on June 8, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brooklineporchfest.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brookline<\/a> on June 8, <a href=\"https:\/\/jpporchfest.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jamaica Plain<\/a> on July 13, <a href=\"http:\/\/belmontporchfest.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Belmont<\/a> on Sept. 7 and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.roslindalearts.org\/porchfest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Roslindale<\/a> on Sept. 14.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>If this is the kind of coverage of arts, cultures and activisms you appreciate, please support Wonderland by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patreon.com\/wonderlandlandfanclub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contributing to Wonderland on Patreon<\/a>. They offer wisecracking, potty-mouthed, slut-positive rock with songs like \u201cHot Tub Wingman\u201d (\u201cLet\u2019s get drunk and all get inside your hot tub\u201d) to their 2017 album \u201cGo Fuck Myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/n7ISNmJ8yiE\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nAkira and the Allstars (featuring Pressure Cooker)<\/h3>\n<p><em>2 to 4 p.m. 20 Central St.<\/em><br \/>\nInspired by Jamaican ska, rocksteady, and reggae music of the 1960s and \u201870s.<\/p>\n<h3><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JhqMvwazeYM\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nJon Bernhardt, Thereminst<\/h3>\n<p><em>2 to 4 p.m. 9 Charnwood Road.<\/em><br \/>\n\u201cYou stand up for every nerd who\u2019s ever wanted to be a rock star,\u201d Simon Cowell told Bernhardt when he performed on the television program \u201cAmerica\u2019s Got Talent\u201d in 2016. So we don\u2019t sweat the sour notes or fumbled cues, and just move on to the next. As long as our beat and our feet keep moving forward, nothing anyone does can stop the music, or the feelings of joy and empowerment that follow.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HK7m5fVwg3A\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nSecond Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society Brass Band<\/h3>\n<p><em>4 to 6 p.m. 14 Quincy St.<\/em><br \/>\nA 30-piece \u201craucous, stomp-your-foot-and-belt-out-the-choruses\u201d New Orleans-style activist street band. These are the folks who founded the Honk festival. Their mission: \u201cTo fight for social justice causes and support community events while having fun and spreading joy through our music.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><iframe style=\"border: 0; width: 100%; height: 120px;\" src=\"https:\/\/bandcamp.com\/EmbeddedPlayer\/album=1375546993\/size=large\/bgcol=ffffff\/linkcol=0687f5\/tracklist=false\/artwork=small\/transparent=true\/\" seamless=\"\"><a href=\"http:\/\/trabants.bandcamp.com\/album\/nel-cuore-di-una-terra-selvaggia\">Nel Cuore Di Una Terra Selvaggia by Trabants<\/a><\/iframe><br \/>\nTrabants \/ Happy Little Clouds \/ Thrust Club \/ Calm Down, Dead Man<\/h3>\n<p><em>4 to 6 p.m. 16 Madison St.<\/em><br \/>\nTrabants, who lead this lineup, are an instrumental garage\/surf\/psych band who described their 2018 outing \u201cNel Cuore Di Una Terra Selvaggia\u201d as \u201ca psychedelic spaghetti Western surf rock garage circus in the vein of the of the great Italian exploitation film soundtracks of the 1960&#8217;s.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Xmjvyy5_teI\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nTysk Tysk Task<\/h3>\n<p><em>4 to 6 p.m. 124 Broadway<\/em><br \/>\nDorchester-based indie rock and folk band fronted by Samantha Hartsel plus Chris Beller on drums has been described by Boston Hassle as a &#8220;raw and female-fronted version of Nirvana Unplugged.&#8221; Note that their song \u201cBack in Boston\u201d includes the lyric \u201cWe knew you would come back to the best city on earth.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/k2ubZpI4Fow\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><br \/>\nVilicon Sally (featuring Aznjujube, J_La and Machine Machine)<\/h3>\n<p><em>4:30 to 6 p.m. 67 Broadway St.<\/em><br \/>\nDreamy experimental loop-based electronic folk.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>If this is the kind of coverage of arts, cultures and activisms you appreciate, please support Wonderland by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patreon.com\/wonderlandlandfanclub\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contributing to Wonderland on Patreon<\/a>.
