Muskrat! Was convalescing while chatting with a friend along the Saugus River, just upstream of the Saugus Iron Works, on a recent afternoon. We got quiet for a while. And I was sketching some little rapids (people who know whitewater would probably barely register them as riffles). Maybe we were just quiet enough for long enough for me to see out of the corner of my eye a muskrat waddling downstream toward us. I frantically felt around in my backpack for my camera—nerve damage from cancer chemotherapy makes it hard to find things just by feel now—and got my camera out just in time.
