“Thank for coming out to my protest tonight,” Cliff Notez said in introduction to his performance at Hojoko at the Verb Hotel last night. The event was part of the Boston Music Awards New Music Series. The Boston artist rapped and talked about politics (“Fuck the system”), racism (“You couldn’t be a racist/Your best friend’s black/I’m not your best friend, homie”), depression (“Been in this pain since ’92/Look at all this bullshit I got through … I’m a little depressed, but we’re gonna figure it out”), and the deaths of loved ones (“You can’t cut the lights without starting a party”). Listen to his 2017 album “When the Sidewalk Ends.”
