At the Greased Pole Tournament at Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción’s annual Festival Betances in Boston’s South End this afternoon, the Boricua All Stars, who’ve won the contest for numerous years, tried eight times to shimmy up the pole and grab one of the flags at the top. One time they got within inches of the flags. But they never got one today.

“At the end of the day, it’s going up so many times, carrying all that weight. We did everything we could,” Inocencio “Pito’ Montanez, one of the Boricua All Stars told me.
